Summoning Life Through Reflections

Summoning Life through the Reflections of Helen Talia

Born in Baghdad, raised in Chicago, I've thrived on the life and prosperity of my Assyrian nation. Having a stronghold in Assyrianism, I enjoy activism, empowering women, and initiating community outreach and development programs.

I have also developed myself as a writer for Zinda and Innana magazines, and SkokieTalk.info (USA), Hujada magazine and Ankawa.com (Sweden), Khabour.com (Canada), Tebayn (Lebanon), and recently Qeenatha.com (New Zeland). Professionally, a graduate with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

I enjoy promoting the Assyrian song, by extension introducing our beautiful culture to the world. Your continued support of our tireless musicians, lyricists, poets, writers, and artists is greatly appreciated.

In the wake of my Assyrian nation facing exile, extinction, and now trenches, an awkward resemblance to concentration camps, I have devoted  that which I have been blessed with, creative writing, to unearth stories of every Iraqi-Assyrian child whose dreams have been sanctioned.

Favorite Assyrian quote: "Shapper Doubareh"

Favorite Bible verse: "Be Still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10

Places visited: France, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Holland, United Kingdom, Cyprus, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey

Places desired: Taj Mahal, India, and always Iraq

My dream is: To sing live with Ashur Bet-Sargis "Quppas" from album Dashta D'Nineveh

Favorite artists: Ashur Bet-Sargis, Habib Mousa, Abd Haleem Hafiz, Fairuz, Majida El Roumi, Sarah Brightman, Frank Sinatra, Mario Frangoulis

Favorite music: Raweh and Liliana (traditional Assyrian folklore), Church hymns, Arabic, and Classic opera

Future plans: Writing stories about the lives of people who have impacted history and made contributions to humanity.  (I am living it!)

I would give anything: To have had a childhood in Iraq

Personal hero: my late father ~ Talia Yacoub Talia

Favorite person: Slewo (my son). Children amaze me with their frank questions and innocent smiles

Influences: My late father opened the door to the world of books before the time I can remember

Favorite place: Athra, my beloved Beth-Nahrain.  To you I pledge my love and allegiance.  I was once of mere existence, until you birthed me on your soil.  I was once of total ignorance, until you taught me how to behold your history, love your sons, and fight for your will.  For it is you that has given me an identity, and shaped me to adorn you selflessly.  Until I return to you, yimme, I shall have no honor.  Assyria, you shall be free once again!
